Poultry Feed Mill - Laurel, Miss.
CLIENT
Wayne Poultry/Continental Grain Company
Replacing the mill in Soso, Mississippi, Wayne Poultry’s Laurel mill produces poultry feed, yielding 60 tons per hour of pelleted product, expandable to 120 tons per hour.
Originally, Wayne Poultry wanted a combination concrete and steel mill, believing it was a more cost-effective design. Ibberson demonstrated that the all-concrete, slipform method featuring gravity design is more Iabor and energy-efficient. In addition, the joining or combining of the mill tower and grain storage structures, a design inaugurated on this project, provides the owner with the next generation of single species mill advancement.
Ibberson employed value engineering in another circumstance on the project, devising a unique soil foundation solution to address the varying conditions at the site.
The mill building was erected by pouring 2,100 cubic yards of concrete in seven days of around-the-clock slipform construction. A fast-track, 14-month schedule was met, enabling the Wayne Farms feed mill to aggressively meet its objectives: manufacture and deliver feed to growers and maximize its competitive position in the marketplace.
