General Purpose Feed Mill - Hagerstown, Md.
CLIENT
Purina Mills, Inc.
Purina Mills’ century-plus tradition of excellence in commercial feed manufacturing is incarnated in their Hagerstown feed facility. The greenfield design-build project yielded a general-purpose facility with a concrete slipform tower, warehouse, boiler room, master control room and completely enclosed receiving and loadout areas. It also has a textured feed line producing a combination whole grain and pellet product.
The receiving area handles truck and rail, with a full- length rail pit to permit unloading without moving the rail car.
For batching and mixing operations, the hybrid batching system has been utilized, incorporating three scales and a 20-bin automatic micro-system. Among other advantages, hybrid batching facilitates the use of opportunity ingredients, which in turn can lower overall production costs while improving product quality.
In the loadout area, a lorry scale with a screener enables filling trucks without the need to reposition.
The facility is completely automated, utilizing Purina Mills’ own proprietary control systems.
