Fly Ash and Bed Ash Silos - New Florence, Pa.

Ibberson and Sauer, Inc., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, (Sauer/Ibberson JV) performed the construction work for two 82-foot-diameter fly ash and one 64-foot-diameter bed ash silos at Reliant Energy’s power plant in New Florence, Pennsylvania.
The work included the design of the slipforming system, slipformed concrete walls with internal set-back, post-tensioning of the silo walls, 5’-9”-thick bin bottom slabs supported on steel columns, conical concrete hopper bottom in the bed ash silo, truck loadout equipment concrete floor slabs, and concrete roof slabs supported by 3’-4”-deep steel trusses.
Despite harsh winter weather conditions, the two-shift, six day a week work schedule allowed the client’s desired schedule to be met.
